A little about me.
Whilst there will be other contributors for now its just me.
Mark.
I decided to become a walker in late 2011, i started off i suppose like most, a pair of trainers, jeans and a tee shirt, i needed to get fit, lose weight and extend the photographic hobby that i already had, i headed for the nearest hill, alone with my Sony DSLR A200, Wow, i was out on that hill for hours, i very quickly filled my memory cards but carried on walking, it may seem kind of strange but i had a feeling of being at home, i had returned to my roots, i loved with a passion every single footstep, when eventually i did come off the hill and go home, i couldnt wait to go back, I had become an instant addict...
In time i did find that some "gear" was essential, as well as enhancing my walks it kept me safe, warm and in most cases dry, i purchased some very cheap walking shoes, a backpack some waterproof trousers and jacket, this for a few months was enough but as winter neared i needed more, so i upgraded my shoes for full leather boots (again not really expensive), a pair of waterproof gaitors, hat, scarf and gloves...only the cheap wooly variety available from most high street shops, i too prepared an emergency kit, it contained various wound dressings, a knife, foil blanket, wistle, a lighter for fire starting (i also carried a flint and steel), water purification tablets, pain killers, and 2 oxo (oh a warm drink can be a godsend on its own) there were probably some other bits in there that escape me, i also got myself a map and compass, although i very very rarely use these.
My walking was getting better with every step, my equipment was and indeed is improving, i will eventually come back and put some pictures up, my walking range is expanding, my collection of memories and pictures too is extensive...
BUT
I had been walking around admiring the natural beauty of the area and missing all the history, the fable and tall tale.
